Guangdong names 25 hospitals for pilot international medical services
Guangdong has designated its first 25 hospitals to pilot international medical services, as the province seeks to better serve foreign nationals and cross-border patients after overseas patient visits rose by more than 20 percent last year.
The list, released jointly by the provincial health commission, medical insurance bureau and drug administration, includes both public and private hospitals.
The pilot program is aimed at Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan residents, foreign nationals living, studying or traveling in Guangdong, and overseas Chinese and foreign patients seeking treatment in the province.
Participating hospitals will be allowed to offer services that meet international standards of quality control and management, with payment made through out-of-pocket settlement, foreign currency or international commercial insurance rather than the basic medical insurance system.

A broad range of services will be covered, including diagnosis of complex diseases, chronic disease management, rehabilitation, health screening, medical cosmetology and rare disease treatment. A key feature will be therapies rooted in Lingnan traditional Chinese medicine, such as acupuncture, tuina and preventive care.
Most of the pilot hospitals are also designated institutions under the "Hong Kong-Macao Drug and Medical Device Access Policy", which has accelerated access to advanced drugs and medical devices in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, local authorities said.
